When Did I Last Clean This? Track Chores Without a Fixed Schedule

Keep a chore log you can check when your memory is fuzzy. Record each completion in Play This Life and see Last done without choosing a fixed cleaning schedule.

You look at the windows and try to remember when you last cleaned them. Was it last weekend? Earlier in the month? You remember doing the work; the date is harder to place.

Play This Life lets you keep a chore log without choosing a fixed cleaning schedule. Save the chore as Anytime, record it when you finish, and check its Last done date when you need to know.

Ginger, Play This Life’s AI assistant, can help set it up. You can keep the record alongside your other chores, projects, routines, and workouts.

Keep a date you can come back to

Sometimes you want to answer “when did I last do this?” before deciding what to do next. The windows might need another clean after a dusty week. Another time, they might still look fine.

A last-time tracker gives that decision a starting point: the most recent completion you recorded. You choose when to do the work again.

An Anytime chore supports that approach. It stays available for independent completions, so you can return to the same saved chore each time. There is no weekly quota or interval to choose.

Ask Ginger to save one occasional chore

Start with something whose date you keep trying to remember. For example:

Create a chore called “Clean the windows” that I can log whenever I do it. Use Anytime, with no scheduled date, deadline, or weekly quota.

Review the saved chore. Its repeat mode should be Anytime, and its dates should match what you asked for. You can ask Ginger to change the details or edit them directly.

To set it up yourself, open the chore’s details and the Repeats editor. Choose Anytime under Repeat mode, review the start date and timezone, and choose Save repeat. Leave the chore’s scheduled date and deadline empty for this example.

Record the work, then check Last done

Open Views → Chores and mark the chore complete when you finish. The Chores view shows its latest recorded date as Last done. Before its first completion, the row shows Not done yet.

Here is a simple example using the same saved chore twice:

Example: keeping a record of window cleaning
What you recordLatest date to check
Clean the windows on October 17October 17
Clean them again on October 26October 26

The later completion updates the date you see. You keep using the existing chore rather than making another copy.

Use All chores to return to the collection and check a chore’s Last done date. Done today brings together chores you recorded today. If you mark one complete by mistake, use its Undo action.

The record follows what you log. Mark the chore done when you finish so the date is useful the next time you check.

Give occasional household jobs a place

You can use this approach for cleaning windows, wiping cupboard shelves, or dusting a bookcase—jobs you choose to do as needed. Save the names that make sense to you and record the work when it happens.

If it helps you find things, group chores under lists such as Kitchen or Living room. The Chores view can group them by those lists and filter by space. Room grouping is optional; you can start with one chore.

Your household record also lives with the rest of your plans. See how Play This Life brings chores, habits, and personal projects into one planner.

Want the next cleaning date worked out for you?

Keep Anytime when you want a record and prefer to decide when the chore needs attention. If you want to wait a set number of days after each completion, use a completion-based repeat.

For example, “change the sheets seven days after I finish” needs an interval. Our guide to scheduling chores based on when you last did them walks through that setup and where to find the next date.

Questions about tracking when chores were last done

Can I track a chore without assigning it a cleaning day?

Yes. Save it as an Anytime chore without a scheduled date or deadline. Record each completion when you do the work.

Can I complete the same chore again later?

Yes. Anytime supports independent completions. Return to the saved chore when you do it again; its Last done date follows the latest recorded completion.

Do I need to set up a whole cleaning schedule?

No. Start with one occasional chore. Add more when having their dates in the same place would help.

Give your future self a date to check

Choose one chore you keep second-guessing. Save it as Anytime and record it the next time you finish. When you wonder “when did I last clean this?”, open the chore and check.
