Organize Your Chores by Room and See What Needs Doing
Build a room-by-room chore list in Play This Life. Keep Kitchen, Bathroom, and Bedroom jobs together, filter to one space, and see what needs doing now.
You have a little time to clean the kitchen. Your chore list also has bathroom jobs, bedding, and things scattered around the rest of the house. Finding what belongs here takes another pass through the list.
Play This Life lets you organize chores by room and focus on one space at a time. Save lists named Kitchen, Bathroom, or Bedroom, place the relevant chores beneath them, and use the Chores view’s room filter.
Ginger, Play This Life’s AI assistant, can help create the lists and chores. Start with the room you want to work on, then add more of your home when it helps.

Start with a small chore list for each room
Choose jobs you can recognize and complete. “Wipe the counters” is a clearer place to begin than a single entry called “Kitchen.” The room gives the work a home; the individual chore tells you what to do.
Here is a simple room-by-room cleaning list you can adapt:
| Room | Chores to consider |
|---|---|
| Kitchen | Wipe the counters; wipe cupboard shelves |
| Bathroom | Wipe the sink and mirror; clean the grout |
| Bedroom | Change the sheets; dust bedside tables |
Pick the jobs that fit your home and give each its own timing. You might wipe the counters daily, log cupboard shelves when you clean them, and leave a larger job for a future date.
You can build one room first. A useful Kitchen list is enough to start using the view.
Ask Ginger to put the chores in their rooms
Describe both the room names and the work that belongs under them. For example:
Create Kitchen and Bathroom as lists. Under Kitchen, add “Wipe the counters” and “Wipe cupboard shelves” as chores. Under Bathroom, add “Wipe the sink and mirror” and “Clean the grout” as chores. Help me choose when each should be available.
Review the saved lists and their child chores. Check that the room names match what you wanted, the jobs are saved as chores, and their dates or repeats fit your plan. Ask Ginger to change the details or edit them directly.
The grouping uses your actual list names. Kitchen and Bathroom are a way to organize the saved work, so choose names you will recognize when you open the filter.
Filter to the room you are cleaning
Open Views → Chores. The All spaces selector lets you choose a room or list. Select Kitchen to narrow the view to chores in that list.
With To do selected, you see the Kitchen chores that are currently ready for attention. The list heading supplies the room name, and the chore rows supply the work.
Choose Bathroom when you move to that room, or All spaces when you want the wider household view. You can keep the same chores and change which part of the house you are looking at.
If a room has no current chores, it can still have work planned for later. Expand Upcoming to check what is waiting, or choose All chores to review the room’s collection.
Keep room organization separate from timing
Putting two chores in Kitchen does not make them share a repeat rule. Each chore keeps its own schedule.
Consider this small setup:
| Chore | Room and timing |
|---|---|
| Wipe the counters | Kitchen · daily |
| Wipe cupboard shelves | Kitchen · Anytime |
| Wipe the sink and mirror | Bathroom · seven days after completion |
| Clean the grout | Bathroom · a future scheduled date |
The future-dated grout job stays out of the current To do list until it becomes ready. You can still find it under the Bathroom filter in All chores and, while it is waiting, Upcoming.
Use a completion-based repeat when you want a gap after finishing. Use an Anytime chore log when you mainly want to check when you last did the job. For calendar or period repeats, choose how missed chores carry forward so the schedule behaves the way you intend.
Leave room for chores without a room
Some jobs do not need a room list. You might want to record “Empty the shopping bag” without deciding where it belongs.
Leave that chore ungrouped. Select No list in the space filter to find chores without a room list. Choose All spaces to include them alongside the grouped chores.
You can organize the parts that help you find work and keep the rest simple.
Questions about organizing chores by room
Can I see just the chores for one room?
Yes. Place the chores beneath a list named for the room, then choose that list in the Chores view’s space filter.
Does changing the room filter change my cleaning schedule?
No. The filter changes which chores you see. Their saved dates and repeat rules stay with the individual chores.
Where can I find work planned for later?
Choose the room and expand Upcoming, or switch to All chores to review its collection, including future work.
Give one room a list you can use
Pick a room, save a few clear chores beneath its list, and choose timing that fits each job. When you have time to clean, filter to that space and begin with what is ready.
